Last night’s meeting was quicker than most, but (I thought) excellent in some of the things that we discovered. Thanks for sharing your insights.
I want to continue to encourage you to hang in there with Bible reading, study, prayer and Scripture memory review. When I push a little, please understand that I am not trying to bring you up to any human standard, but simply trying to challenge you to take that next step to becoming more like Jesus Christ. This group is never about “pass” or “fail” but about growing deeper. Always ask yourself the question: Am I farther along in my maturity today than I was a month ago?
This morning I read from Psalms 16, 47, 66 and 116. For some insights I gained, check out my post on my blog.
If you need the article on “How to Spend Extended Time in Prayer,” just click on the title to access it. I will be praying for your half day of prayer.
This morning I read Psalms 17, 26, 69, 122.
I pretty much have fallen off the proverbial wagon when it comes to my bible reading this week. It seems like there have been too many distractions to settle down long enough to read. On Wed. I read Numbers 11 & 12 and then this morning I read Numbers 13 & 14. I have been very hung-up on Chapter 11 and it’s meaning. I have read it probably 6 or 7 times in the past 2 days plus re-read it in about 5 other translations/versions on Biblegateway. As Moses was leading the Israelites out of Egypt, several of the Israelites kept grumbling and wailing because they were tired of eating manna and craved meat. Some longed for Egypt again where they had a much more desirable diet as well as varieties of meat. God became angry about their moaning and complaining and told Moses that he would provide them with so much meat that they would begin to loathe meat. He brought a wind in which carried thousands of quail…..the quail laid outside their camp three feet deep and as far as the eye could see. Everyone went out and gathered quail. Then when they started eating the quail….”while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed” God struck them with a severe plague. “Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah, [f] because there they buried the people who had craved other food.” I understand why God was angry. The Israelites prayed for deliverance from their slavery in Egypt. God delivered them plus they witnessed many miraculous acts in their behalf…..still though….now even in freedom….they were dissatisfied with their hardships and complained often and some even longed for Egypt again. They were not appreciating their deliverance, they were not content/filled with God and they were not trusting God. I guess the part that confuses me is why did God say…..okay…..I’ll give them meat….provide the meat……then kill them (punish them) for eating the meat. Any thoughts?????????
This morning I read Numbers 15 & 16. I have given up on totally understanding Chapter 11. Sorry for the long post yesterday!!!!!!!!! See you all at church!!
